Turning Wings into Wins:
The Strategic Rollout of Hungry Moth

About the Work

As both the creator and marketer of Hungry Moth, I set out to build more than just a game, I wanted to create a brand players could connect with. To do that, I focused on three key marketing strategies: SEO, social media outreach, and newsletters. These channels allowed me to reach my target audience organically, build community, and tell the story behind the game in a way that felt fun, approachable, and engaging. Each tactic played a unique role in raising awareness, driving traffic, and building long-term visibility for Hungry Moth.

Search Engine Optimization

To increase discoverability and attract the right audience, I optimized website content, product descriptions, and metadata to rank for keywords related to card games, family-friendly tabletop games, and indie game launches. This helped drive organic traffic from search engines, improved visibility during key launch phases, and ensured that interested players could easily find and learn about the game online.

Social Media Outreach

I developed social media content that captured the playful, strategic spirit of Hungry Moth. I shared behind-the-scenes development updates, teaser artwork, gameplay highlights, and interactive posts to spark engagement. This approach helped establish a recognizable visual identity, build community interest, and keep momentum strong from early development through launch.

Email Newsletters

I developed a series of email newsletters to keep potential players and supporters informed and engaged throughout the development and launch process. The newsletter delivered a mix of updates, exclusive sneak peeks, and pre-launch reminders—designed to build anticipation and strengthen the connection between the game and its growing audience. This direct communication channel helped nurture interest, drive traffic, and convert curious subscribers into players.

Understanding the Customer

To market Hungry Moth effectively, I started by defining the brand voice and building a clear user persona, targeting casual gamers, families, and strategy lovers. This guided an SEO strategy focused on relevant search terms like “fun family card games” and “unique tabletop games.” By optimizing web content and blog posts around these themes, I helped Hungry Moth become more discoverable and connect with the right audience from the start.

Visual Development

To capture the essence of Hungry Moth and appeal to our target persona, a creative, nature-loving kindergarten art teacher, I developed a mood board that blended whimsical moth imagery, soft natural colors, and playful yet sophisticated design elements. This visual foundation guided all branding and marketing materials, ensuring a consistent look and feel that felt both charming and strategic. The mood board helped bring clarity to the brand’s personality and made it easier to communicate the game’s unique vibe across all channels.

Groundwork

Before launching Hungry Moth, I conducted a detailed competitor analysis to understand how similar indie card games positioned themselves visually, verbally, and strategically. This helped identify gaps and opportunities in the market. I also completed a brand worksheet to define the game’s core values, tone, audience, and key differentiators. This foundational work ensured the brand was clear, consistent, and ready to stand out in a crowded space while staying true to its playful spirit.

Search Engine Optimization

To help Hungry Moth reach the right audience, I started by building a strong brand foundation rooted in a clear user persona; a creative, bug-loving kindergarten art teacher. I developed an SEO strategy targeting niche search terms like “quirky card games” and “indie games with cute art.” To support this, I wrote a blog post about hosting a Hungry Moth game night. This content boosted search visibility and gave potential players a fun, tangible way to connect with the brand.

Social Media Outreach

To boost engagement and build community around Hungry Moth, I crafted fun, on-brand content that speaks directly to our players. This included vibrant visuals paired with short, easy to follow videos, plus clever hashtags to spark conversation. I designed posts that guide followers to the link in bio, leading them to blog posts and ways to connect with fellow Hungry Moth fans. This approach creates a welcoming, playful vibe that encourages sharing and builds lasting connections.
